My Journey to God...

I came to Christ officially during my sophomore year of college although I’d say I really became a committed follower during my senior year. Not coming from a Christian home and attending a Catholic college was a unique experience. We were required to take a number of religion courses to satisfy degree requirements and although none of those courses themselves led me to Christ, it put me in a position to consider the gospel and have opportunities to wonder about faith with the community around me. Truth be told, my conversion experience is almost solely related to the prayers and perseverance of one friend and the Holy Spirit working through her. A fellow basketball teammate, this girl was determined to work at loving me, praying for me, and investing in me despite my repeated requests for her to cease. Slowly and somewhat surprisingly as our friendship developed, my fascination with typical college life became empty. The places, people, and activities that used to bring both joy and identity were not anymore and it was at this point that I was forced to take a hard look at the reality of my life. I made an earnest commitment to the Lord as a sophomore, but found it difficult to subsequently surrender my lifestyle. Thus, as emptiness grew and prayerful intercession on my friend’s part increased, I felt the Holy Spirit pursuing me with great intensity. I knew in my heart that the gospel was truth and I was finally ready to lay some things down, dig in, and taste the fruit of a relationship with the Lord. The reality of my life was transposed with the reality of God’s love and has been an arduous but overwhelmingly worthwhile journey ever since.
